Philip Scranton

Hi All,

I contacted Prof. Scranton at Rutgers for any advice on comparables that he might have. His response is below:

Dear Ms. Van Domelen, You'd do well to get in touch with Dr. Harry Silcox, who wrote the definitive study of Disston's Tacony about a decade or more ago, and who still is hale and hearty, living in the neighborhood. His book is called "A Place to Live and Work," and was published by Penn State Prees. Other paternalistic communities would include Rockdale in Chester(?) County (see Anthony Wallace's book by that title), the DuPont Brandywine powder mills (on which the Hagley Museum & Library now stands - there's a study by Meg Mulrooney on the Irish workers and their gunpowder making community, Univ. Press of New England).Hope this helps. Best regards, Phil Scranton
